The latest on Zinedine Zidane’s stance on becoming Newcastle United manager

The latest on Zinedine Zidane’s stance on becoming Newcastle United manager

Newcastle subject to takeover

Last week, many Newcastle fans’ dreams were made a reality when Mike Ashley’s 14-year reign in charge of the Tyneside club came to an end, and the Saudi Public Investment Fund took the reins, backed by a hefty budget.

Now boasting the richest owners in world football, but sitting in the Premier League relegation zone without a win, the Magpies are sure to spend money in January in order to avoid a somewhat humiliating relegation to England’s second tier.

In addition, they seem set to part ways with current boss Steve Bruce, expected to be sacked in the not too distant future.

However, the Englishman will still manage his 1000th game, and perhaps last for a while, as he takes charge of the Magpies showdown with Tottenham this weekend. But who could replace him?

Zidane in the mix?

One man who has been linked with a move, both due to the fact that he is currently out of work and that he has top managerial experience, is Zinedine Zidane, who won three Champions League titles with Real Madrid.

As per The Mirror, however, there is no chance of the former Real Madrid man opting to move to Tyneside any time soon, despite currently being unemployed after resigning from the no.1 spot with Los Blancos in July.

There is another reason too, with the French legend reportedly holding out for the top job for the French national team, although the Nations League win last week may have prolonged Didier Deschamps’ tenure as Les Blues head coach despite a poor Euro 2020 run, that saw them knocked out in the round of 16 against Switzerland.

The outlet reports:

Zinedine Zidane has also rebuffed soundings, believing he could become France manager.
