The Coutinho clause which could see Liverpool earn €20 million from Barcelona

Coutinho clause

Barcelona are looking to move on Philippe Coutinho either on loan or permanently in the summer to recoup some of the funds which it took to bring in the Brazilian who has ultimately failed to replicate his Liverpool form.

However, they also want to move on the 28-year-old in order to avoid having to pay The Reds further money due to a clause in Coutinho’s contract.

The deal, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, cost €120 million plus 40 additional clauses. Barca have paid 15 so far due to the fulfillment of these, however, a significant €20 million outlay would be required should Coutinho play just 10 more games and reach 100 for the Blaugrana.

This explains why Barca were so open to allowing Coutinho to leave for Bayern last season where Coutinho won the Champions League, these games did not count towards the total and so Barca will be open to this type of departure once again.

Pedri’s Koeman praise

One of the players brought in by Barcelona to provide competition for Coutinho but has ended up replacing him altogether has been former Las Palmas youngster Pedri. The now 18-year-old joined Ansu Fati at the club as one of the youngest starters in the line-up.

In a recent interview, Pedri spoke of his surprise at how much faith Ronald Koeman had given him this season.

“He’s really surprised me because I didn’t expect him to be the way he is. He’s a guy who puts a lot of trust in young players,” he said.

“He gives us tips to get better, and above all, about how to enjoy ourselves on the pitch. If you enjoy it, it’ll work out much better.”

Barca fans will also enjoy his admission about his time with Real Madrid on trial.

“In the first few days I was there, when I put on the kit, I looked at the badge and I knew something wasn’t quite right,” he said.

“In the end, though, I was lucky enough to end up at the club that I want to be at.”
