Sweden’s Dejan Kulusevski tests positive for Covid-19 days before Euro 2020

Kulusevski tests positive

Sweden have been dealt a major blow ahead of their European Championship tournament with key forward Dejan Kulusevski reportedly receiving a positive Covid-19 test.

The story was reported by journalist Johanna Frändén who also mentioned the squad will not need to isolate.

‘Dejan Kulusevski covid-positive. No need to isolate the whole squad, according to Swedish medical authorities/recommendations,’ she wrote.

This has sparked some concern regarding which other players could be affected between now and the start of the tournament.

Euro 2020 is taking place across Europe with plenty of travelling, arguably increasing the risk compared to hosting the competition in just one nation.

Sweden have already lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a serious knee problem and will now lose another key piece of their attack.

Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak will have greater pressure to step up alongside the more experienced head of Emil Forsberg. Bologna’s Mattias Svanberg is another one to watch a transitioning Sweden squad that reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 2018.

Sweden’s opening game of the group is against their toughest opponents Spain. They will play Slovakia second followed by the side tipped to be their biggest competition for second spot in the group, Poland.
