Spain vs Argentina: International friendly preview

Preparations for the summer’s upcoming World Cup continue on Tuesday night when Spain host Argentina in an international friendly at Atletcio Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Argentina beat 2006 World Cup winners Italy 2-0 in an international friendly on Friday night. Ever Banega and Manuel Lanzini were Argentina’s late goal scorers in the absence of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero.

Spain held world champions Germany to a draw in Dusseldorf on Friday night. Valencia forward Rodrigo scored early on before Thomas Muller equalised as the match finished 1-1.

Quite surprisingly, Argentina are 4th in the FIFA World Rankings, two places above Spain.

The two sides last met eight years ago in an international friendly which Argentina won 4-1.

Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuian, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero scored for the home side that day, while Fernando Llorente notched a consolation for Spain.
