Ramos has rejected 1-year Real extension but Man City are not interested. Real Madrid are seemingly close to a deal with Bayern’s David Alaba.
Ramos rejects 1-year extension
The future of Sergio Ramos is an intriguing case study for many of Europe’s top clubs. The Spanish international sees his current deal with Los Blancos expire at the end of the season. He has entered contract negotiations with the club but it has been difficult to agree on the length of contract which is going to be agreed.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Ramos is not prepared to accept a one-year extension and wishes for a longer commitment to be offered to him. Now 34, Ramos is reaching the final years of his career but, despite his is age, the Real Madrid captain has remained one of the most influential players in Zinedine Zidane’s team.
Ramos scored the winner in the El Classico earlier in the season and has scored further pivotal goals domestically and in Europe.
Looking at the Real Madrid squad, considering the possible departure of Ramos, this would leave the side with just 3 recognised centre-backs. Ramos’ typical partner is that of French international Raphael Varane. Madrid have Brazilian Eder Militao in addition to Nacho Fernandez who can also play in either full-back position if necessary.
Despite the depth, club president Florentino Perez will be determined to keep Ramos at the club and avoid him moving to one of the club’s European rivals. However, Real Madrid will not need to worry about competition from Manchester City who have reportedly not made any attempt to pursue a deal for Ramos.
#mcfc sources say they won’t move for Sergio Ramos this summer. Fair to say they’re not badly off for centre halves.

Alaba deal moves closer
If Madrid were to lose the services of Sergio Ramos they could be immediately buoyed by the acquisition of Austrian international and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.
The 28-year old has failed to agree a new deal at Bayern Munich and is looking to move on from the Bundesliga champions. Now in the January window and with just 6 months left on his deal, he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any club.
Fabrizio Romano reported on CBS Sports Soccer that a deal was yet to be signed between the two parties but Alaba’s Madrid dream would likely be the determining factor in enabling the Spanish capital club to sign the versatile defender.
The Austrian international’s versatility is almost footballing folklore at this stage. For club and country he has played in a number of positions at the highest level, beginning his time at Bayern as a left-back and gradually moving further inside into a central defensive position. For the Austrian national team has played in advanced roles such as the number 10 or even in the left wing position.
The possibility of seeing him in the white of Real Madrid is an exciting one and also something which would add exceptional quality to the Spanish champions.
