Revealed: The Manchester United record Chelsea matched vs Everton

Chelsea matched a Manchester United record on Saturday evening.

Chelsea faced off with Everton in their opening game of the season on Saturday, coming away with a 1-0 win thanks to a Jorginho penalty.

After seeing off Everton, Chelsea ended their winless run at Goodison Park, which stretched back six games before this weekend.

When asked about breaking that record post-match, Tuchel said:

“It’s always about the win when you play Premier League. A win is a win and it’s most important because it’s what we play for. It’s important to build confidence, belief, the atmosphere, and also to be open for improvement and criticism because there are a lot of things to improve.

“There are also a lot of good things to take away. We have struggled in the last years to steal the points here and win and today we got all three and a clean sheet. From here we go.”

As well as putting an end to their dismal run vs Everton away from home, Chelsea also matched a Manchester United record.

The west Londoners’ victory on Saturday was the 20th occasion Chelsea have started a Premier League campaign by taking all three points. That is a record only Manchester United can match since the formation of the league in 1992.

Manchester United can retake the crown by beating Brighton in the 2 pm kick off on Sunday, but Chelsea are the joint holders of the record for now anyway.
