Real player to forego bonuses

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the world and the sport of football specifically extremely hard.

Without fans in grounds, revenue has plummeted and clubs across the globe have struggled to make do.

Even massive clubs such as Real Madrid have faced their own problems in the context of the money involved in their daily workings.

Despite the financial pressures, the club remains competitive in both the league in Spain and in Europe progressing to the Champions League semi-finals after beating Liverpool.

Should the players win either of these two competitions they would have been in line for serious bonus clauses being activated in their contracts.

However, according to ABC in Spain, players of Los Blancos are set to forgo their bonus fees in order to help the club financially.

This act of generosity is set to save the club upwards of €30 million. This will likely be used to cope with the pressures of the pandemic further and possibly to help strengthen the squad in the summer.

Zidane not focused on Chelsea

After Real Madrid progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they will face Chelsea, manager Zinedine Zidane was questioned upon facing the Blues and replied with a very simple dismissal, instead choosing to focus on his current responsibilities in the league.

“We’ve got a number of La Liga games to play before we face Chelsea, but it’s going to be a very tough tie,” said Zidane.

Zidane said that he senses that a shift has taken place in the team and that the club has turned a corner from their early-season struggles.

“I’m not going to say anything. We’re alive in both competitions, but we haven’t won anything yet. We’ve had tough moments during the season, of course. But we’re still alive. We just have to carry on in this vein.

“We’ve finished this game in much better physical shape than against Barcelona. This week we’ve had to put a tremendous shift in and we come away from these three games feeling very happy.

“(I am proud of) the character they have. They are a team who always want more. The more the going gets tough, the more they stick together. We’ve got bags of quality in this side, of course; but the character these players show is the most important thing.”

Real Madrid sit now just 1 point behind struggling Atletico Madrid who have picked up 8 points from their last available 15. Real meanwhile have collected 13 and closed the gap considerably.
