Real Madrid make Carlo Ancelotti ‘chosen one’ to replace Zidane

Ancelotti ‘chosen one’

Real Madrid are still yet to appoint a new coach after the departure of Zinedine Zidane.

A number of coaches have been linked with the job including Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte. Allegri has now joined Juventus and Conte is said now not to be an option for Los Blancos.

In a stunning turn of events, Everton boss and former Real coach Carlo Ancelotti is now the favourite for the job.

Spanish outlet Marca claim that Ancelotti’s name has been put to the front of the queue and they could even approach within the ‘next few hours.’

Real Madrid aims to close the hiring of their next coach immediately. And the chosen one is Carlo Ancelotti. The leaders of the white club do not want to delay the arrival of the new coach any longer, with which to start drawing what will be the white team of the 21-22 campaign, so his signing will be announced in the next few hours.

Why did Ancelotti leave Real?

Having achieved la Decima with Real Madrid in 2014, winning the 10th Champions league, Ancelotti left the club just a year later.

It is said he had a falling out with President Florentino Perez. He explained his departure and the ‘chaos’ in an interview prior to his arrival at Everton.

“The reason the row with Florentino Perez exploded in Madrid was my substitution of Bale against Valencia. Bale should’ve passed it to Karim Benzema, who would’ve scored in front of an open goal, but instead he took the shot,” he said.

“I hauled Bale off and the chaos erupted.”

Should he return, would the same issues he had with Perez before exist? One would imagine that they wouldn’t if he would be willing to leave the Premier League to rejoin Los Blancos.

Real are seemingly making a habit of going back to former coaches. The question will be, can it work again?
