Ramos to leave Madrid at the end of his contract

Ramos leaving Madrid at the end of the season

Sergio Ramos has been a stalwart of Real Madrid’s defence, having made 671 appearances for Los Blancos.

However, his future has been uncertain in recent months, with the player rumoured to be stalling on a new deal, and his current one expiring this summer.

Ahead of a press conference tomorrow, it was announced by Real Madrid that Sergio Ramos will be leaving the club when his current deal expires.

How did we get here?

According to reports in Spain, the stand-off surrounds the veteran’s wages, rumoured to currently stand at 312,000 pounds per week, according to a report in the Sun.

The Madrid club are thought to be unwilling to continue to pay him such an extortionate amount, especially in the midst of a global economic recession,

However, Ramos is unwilling to reduce his current asking rates, and is thus set to leave the club.

All will be revealed tomorrow (17th June) according to Spanish outlet Marca. Ramos is set to hold a press conference in Valdebebas, where according to the media he will announce his decision not to renew his current deal and instead move away from the capital.

Where will he go?

It remains to be seen where Ramos will go next- Manchester City were rumoured to be interested in the Spaniard as they look to win the Champions League, a trophy that Ramos has acquired on no fewer than four occasions with Real Madrid.

Ramos was controversially dropped from Luis Enrique’s Spanish squad for Euro2020, and will be desperate for a chance to prove that the coach was wrong to discard him at this point in his career.
