Ralf Rangnick provides insight into January transfer plans amid claims of hefty Man United budget

New Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has, on Friday, provided something of an insight into his plans for the January transfer window.

Carrick moves on

The subject of the hotseat at Old Trafford has, of course, proven headline news over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after Michael Carrick, amid an impressive stint as caretaker boss at United, led his side back into action for the final time, in a Premier League meeting with Arsenal.

With the aforementioned Rangnick watching on from the stands, Carrick guided the Red Devils to an eventual 3-2 triumph, and back within three points of the top-4 in the process.

In the aftermath of the full-time whistle in Manchester, however, the English tactician confirmed his intention to depart the club with immediate effect, setting the stage for a completely fresh start on the touchline in Manchester…

‘Not the best time…’

Ralf Rangnick, confirmed as the man set to oversee ongoings in the United dugout for the remainder of the campaign, will, in turn, take charge of his first outing with the club this weekend.

The Reds are set to welcome Crystal Palace to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, in the hopes of continuing their climb up the Premier League table.

And, ahead of the highly-anticipated fixture, this afternoon, the latest arrival at the Theatre of Dreams held his pre-match press conference.

A whole host of noteworthy topics were discussed, but the one which will likely pique the most widespread attention amongst the United fanbase came in the form of an insight into Rangnick’s plans for January.

The former RB Leipzig chief was pressed specifically on whether he intends to dip into the market for reinforcements mid-season, amid reports of a whopping £100 million war chest.

Rangnick, however, was keen to play the subject down, revealing his opinion that the squad currently at his disposal possesses ample numbers:

‘We haven’t spoken about new players and it’s not the time to speak about new players. It’s the time to get to know the current squad in detail. This is the major focus for the next couple of weeks, to get to know the players that we have currently.’

‘The squad is definitely not too small, there are enough players in the squad. Maybe at Christmas or after Christmas, there will be a possible time to speak about possible transfers in the winter.’

The German also went on to suggest that mid-season, in his eyes, marks a poor time to conduct business, with many winter transfers proving unsustainable in the long-term:

‘In my experience, winter is not the best possible time for sustainable transfers and, with this quality of players we have here, it would in theory only make sense if you can get players who can almost guarantee you more quality.’

‘As I said from experience, this will be difficult in the winter.’
