Raiola lands in Barcelona to discuss Erling Haaland’s future

Raiola lands in Barcelona to discuss Erling Haaland’s future

Dortmund not expecting Haaland departure

The continued transfer saga surrounding Erling Haaland and where he will end up has rumbled on, with further developments today.

Borussia Dortmund’s stance is simple and strong. Club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed that he does not think Haaland will leave this summer, highlighting how he feels it is too early to part ways. Watzke cited the example of Robert Lewandowski waiting before moving across to Bayern Munich.

“I don’t think that will happen,” Watzke said to Kicker. “Erling and his advisor Mino Raiola know what they have in us. I can only advise him to do things like Robert Lewandowski.”

DORTMUND, GERMANY – MARCH 09: Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund celebrates after scoring their side’s second goal from the penalty spot during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match between Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla FC at Signal Iduna Park on March 09, 2021 in Dortmund, Germany. “Haaland gave himself the time to mature into an absolute world-class player in Dortmund. You won’t be able to do that in a year.”

“Because it is clear that if Erling should leave us at some point, then he will only go to an even bigger club, and so many are not considered.”

Ultimately, though, if a club come in with a sizeable enough bid, Dortmund will be inclined to take it, considering the release clause set to become active in Haaland’s contract next summer.

Raiola lands in Barcelona

One such club interested in making the Norwegian their star signing is European heavyweight Barcelona. With Lionel Messi’s contract set to run out at the end of the season, Haaland could prove the marquee player who fills the void left by the iconic Argentine.

The attacker’s agent, Mino Raiola, has reportedly landed in Barcelona, in order to hold discussions with the Catalan side.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has taken to social media to confirm the story.

“Mino Raiola is in Barcelona right now, true and 100% confirmed as Sport reported. He’s landed today after meeting with BVB in Dortmund in the last days to talk about Erling Haaland’s future. The race is open with many clubs involved, Barça too. Work in progress,” he wrote.

Barca’s fierce rivals Real Madrid are also credited with an interest in Haaland, as are Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. The saga is sure to be the story of the summer.
