PSG reach reported agreement with Spurs to take Alli on loan, but Mourinho expects him to stay

Alli to PSG

Dele Alli has experienced a torrid time under Jose Mourinho this season, barely featuring after falling completely out of favour with the Portuguese coach. Alli joined Tottenham from MK Dons, and initially flourished under Mauricio Pochettino.

During Mourinho’s first season at the club, Alli continued to feature regularly for the Portuguese tactician, but the new campaign has sparked a change in selection, with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso having been favoured to the England international.

In turn, news broke on Wednesday regarding a loan deal being agreed with PSG.

Any deal agreed with the French champions would see Alli reunite with former coach Pochettino, who has taken over at the French capital club.

Mourinho denies claims

Despite claims that the two clubs have reached an accord, however, Jose Mourinho spoke in a press conference today, and brushed off suggestions of an Alli exit.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United coach explained that he expects very little movement from the club in the final days of the winter window:

“I expect [Alli to still be here],” Mourinho said. “I’m saying that since the beginning of the transfer window. I was not expecting anyone to leave, I was not expecting anyone to come.”

“Until now, January 27, we’re almost in the end. I don’t believe anything is going to happen but it’s open still. Football is football, the transfer window is open. Sometimes unexpected things can happen but I don’t expect it.”

“Honestly, I don’t think so. As I was saying before, the transfer window is open, anything can happen to the last second but I’m convinced nothing is going to happen. If anything happens it would be a huge surprise to me.”

The likelihood is that Alli would of course prefer to move on, considering his lack of game time this season. As such, with anything possible in football, as stated by his own coach, the midfielder will be hoping that this proves to be the case over the remaining days of the window.
