PSG planning to replace Kylian Mbappe with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah

After elimination from the Champions League, PSG may face further problems regarding Mbappe's future who could be replaced by Salah.

Poch explains Mbappe absence

Despite being spotted sitting in the stands, and having been amongst the names on the PSG bench, Kylian Mbappe was not introduced as PSG crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Manchester City.

Before the match, Mauricio Pochettino explained the reasoning behind the Frenchman’s absence from his starting eleven.

“He didn’t feel like starting the match,” said Pochettino.

“We waited and we spoke with the medical staff, in agreement with him. We made the best decision for everyone. He did everything to be there, but it was impossible”

The worry for PSG now will be, with the club having failed to win the Champions League in the last two seasons, despite reaching the final in 2020 and the semi-final in 2021, that Mbappe may seek a move elsewhere.

The club has been in discussions regarding a new deal with the attacker, and club director Leonardo spoke confidently about the prospect.

“Mbappe will stay here, 100 per cent. He is a PSG player. The rest is the rest,” he said defiantly.

“We will see. We are advancing, advancing slowly but we are advancing,”

However, things change quickly in football, and the 22-year-old’s future may be more uncertain than club officials believe.

Salah to replace Mbappe

French media outlet Le Parisien, meanwhile, believe that the man who could replace Mbappe in the French capital is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

‘Mohamed salah is the plan B of the PSG in the event of the departure of Kylian Mbappé this summer. The Liverpool striker wants to leave the Reds two years from the end of his contract,’ wrote le10sport journalist Hadrien Grenier.

Liverpool could miss out on Champions League football altogether for next season, and Salah may be open to leaving to find a club where top-level European competition will be on offer.
