Paul Pogba & Manchester United
If you have to put money on it, you’d be smart to back Paul Pogba staying at Manchester United this season.
The French World Cup winner, 25, is under contract at Old Trafford until 2021.
Pogba is a huge marketing asset who cost Man United 100 million pounds.
Yet, its a daily feature in the papers in the build-up to the season to read stories highlighting the friction between Pogba and his employers.
Wednesday is no different, amid claims that Barcelona have had a bid for Pogba rejected by Man United.
Barcelona’s Pogba bid
According to the Gaurdian, Barcelona have tried to sign Pogba this summer.
However the Catalans’ offer has floundered, as Man United weren’t impressed with the Barca proposal:
Manchester United have turned down a bid from Barcelona for Paul Pogba after the La Liga club offered €50m (£45m) plus the players Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes for the Frenchman.
It’s worth noting that Andre Gomes is injured. He could be sidelined for up to two months at the start of the season.
Pogba’s Man United breakdown deepens
Perhaps the more interesting Pogba update on Wednesday is in the Daily Mail.
The Mail believe that Pogba is “desperate” to leave Man United to join Barcelona. Moreover, Pogba has “agreed” a £350,000-a-week contract with the Catalans.
While the icing on the cake is that Pogba has already told his teammates and Ed Woodward he wants to leave:
Pogba has made it known to players and staff in the last 48 hours that he wants to be sold, two years after rejoining United from Juventus in a then world record £89million deal.
He has become disillusioned with life at United under Mourinho after the relationship between the two men deteriorated rapidly last season.
On the eve of the new season, this is hardly the news Man United fans want to hear.
