Game-changer; Newcastle linked with interest in man responsible for transfers of Falcao, Bernardo Silva and more

Newcastle linked with Luis Campos

Newcastle United look set to begin the new regime at St. James’ Park with a massive statement, as the Magpies are considering bringing in Portuguese transfer wiz Luis Campos to head up the club’s revamping efforts.

According to Mundo Deportivo “the Portuguese is in the number 1 position of those desired to become an architect of the ‘new Newcastle.’ He has been backed by a long career highlighting his successes at both Monaco and Lille, and he may soon have the opportunity to try to repeat them on British soil.”

Campos would be arguably the best man for the job given the manner in which Newcastle have conducted themselves in the market over the years. But with such a wealth of funds becoming rapidly available to a club that has such a poor overall record in the transfer market, an experienced guiding hand like Campos could expertly navigate the Magpies to some excellent pieces of business without having to pay a king’s ransom.

Portuguese has a mouthwatering record at AS Monaco & LOSC Lille

Few, if any, have done a more efficient and effective job of squad building than Luis Campos over the last eight years in Europe.

After his management career came to an end in 2005 with Sport Clube Beira-Mar, he spent one year as a scout at Real Madrid, before taking up the director of football role at AS Monaco.

This is where Campos began to shine brightest, headlining deals for a laundry list of players the likes of Radamel Falcao, João Moutinho, James Rodríguez, Thomas Lemar, Fabinho, Anthony Martial, Bernardo Silva, Geoffrey Kondogbia, and Tiémoué Bakayoko.

But the Esposende-native was not finished there, as a move to LOSC Lille in the same capacity in 2017 further demonstrated how expertly he can navigate the market.

Lille became one of the most formidable clubs in Europe on the transfer front over the last four years, completing deals for players like Nicolas Pépé, Victor Osimhen, Jonathan Ikoné, Renato Sanches, Jonathan David, and Sven Botman, while selling Pépé and Osimhen for gargantuan profits.

Should Newcastle come to an agreement with Campos to take up his next post on Tyneside, there is every possibility that the Magpies could quickly re-establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.
