Newcastle linked with triple Serie A raid to kick-start Eddie Howe regime

Inter duo on the wanted list at Newcastle

Newly-funded Newcastle may finally get the ball rolling in the transfer market under the new Eddie Howe regime at St.

James’ Park after the club has been linked with a flurry of January business.

As reported by Times Sports‘ northern sports correspondent Martin Hardy, Newcastle is tracking a trio of Serie A stars as they make good on their intentions to improve the first-team set up on Tyneside under the former Bournemouth boss.

Inter Milan duo Stefan de Vrij and Marcelo Brozović are two of the big names on the wanted list at Newcastle, with the San Siro-based pair having previously been linked with interest from fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham as new headmaster Antonio Conte looked keen to organize a reunion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Targeting the pair of Serie A stars would certainly be a signal of intent by the club with the level of talent they intend to bring to Tyneside under the Public Investment Fund-led consortium ownership group while targeting the spine for immediate reinforcement shows an understanding of where the key issues lie at the minute.

Magpies also targeting a goalkeeper

Not to stop at just De Vrij and Brozovic, Newcastle is also targeting an upgrade in the goalkeeping department and have sounded out Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha for a January move, as mentioned in the same Times Sport article.

Still only 26-years-old, Strakosha is heavily seasoned in the Italian top flight at the capital club but has lost his place as first-choice at the Stadio Olimpico under Maurizio Sarri to Spanish veteran Pepe Reina and could look to revive his career at St. James’ Park as a considerable upgrade on current number one Karl Darlow.

Strakosha is out of contract at the end of the season and would be available on a free deal, but the need for Newcastle to reinforce heavily – and as quickly as possible – means that Lazio could come away with some financial compensation six months ahead of schedule for the Albanian international if a January move materializes.
