Nathan Ake showers praise on Jack Grealish following Champions League debut

Grealish enjoys fine Champions League debut

New boy Jack Grealish made an instant impact at the Etihad on his Manchester City Champions League debut.

The latest Citizen was signed from Aston Villa in a 100 million pound deal over the summer, and has started life brightly in Manchester. The 26-year-old has already recorded a goal and an assist in 4 Premier League appearances, and was handed his first Champions League start against RB Leipzig.

And he got his European career off to the perfect start, notching an assist for Nathan Ake’s opening goal, before adding a beautiful solo effort ten minutes into the second-half of the encounter.

In doing so, he became the first Englishman to grab a goal and assist on their Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney against Fenerbahce back in 2004.

Ake speaks out on Grealish impact

Perhaps the biggest beneficiary of Grealish’s efforts last night was Nathan Ake, who was found by a pinpoint cross from the former Villa man to open the scoring.

Speaking after the game, Ake was quick to heap praise on his new teammate, saying:

“Every time you give him the ball, you feel like something’s happening”

The Dutch defender added:

“He always wants to take players on, he always wants to create something. With the players we have in the team already and with him, you can see we can create so many chances and score goals.

“He’s a big plus and bonus for us.”

With Grealish adding to the already considerable firepower of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Ferran Torres and Bernardo Silva, can anyone stop Manchester City this season?
