Revealed: Why Napoli’s Jorginho hasn’t signed for Man City

Jorginho & Manchester City

Why hasn’t Jorginho signed for Man City yet?

For several months already, Man City have reportedly been on the verge of signing the Brazilian-born Italian international midfielder.

Manchester City are keen on adding a midfielder in order to provide cover for both Fernandinho and David Silva. Yaya Toure has also now left the Sky Blues.

Jorginho, 26, contributed four goals and four assists in 37 appearances in his defensive midfield role for Napoli in 2017-18.

The Jorginho hold up

On Thursday, both Tuttosport and Gazzetta dello Sport have updates on Jorginho in their papers.

Two issues are flagged up by the Italian press explaining why Jorginho hasn’t been unveiled at Man City.

The first issues relates to Napoli’s next move. Napoli are still struggling to line up a replacement for Jorginho.

Secondly, Man City have yet to agree terms with Napoli for the player.

Man City to throw in Oleksandr Zinchenko?

Gazzetta float the idea that Man City may use Oleksandr Zinchenko as a bargaining chip in the Jorginho deal.

Zinchenko played a handful of matches for Man City last season, often filling in at left-back.

According to Gazzetta, Napoli and Man City are structuring a 50 million euro deal for Jorginho. Zinchenko could be inserted in that deal – most likely on loan – to convince Napoli to sign.

Further, GdS note that Man City and Napoli also need to agree bonus terms regarding Jorginho.

Valencia’s Santi Mina

Over in Tuttosport, Napoli fans are told that Valencia’s Santi Mina is being lined up as Jorginho’s replacement.

Mina, 22-years-old, could cost Napoli 40 million euros.

It’s unclear how close Napoli are to actualising a deal with Valencia.
