Mustafi’s father rubbishes talk of contract termination discussions with Arsenal

Mustafi’s father rubbishes talk of contract termination discussions with Arsenal

Mustafi termination talks

Arsenal have had a surprisingly busy January window in regards to both incomings and outgoings. With Arsenal being financially restricted due to their spending in the summer and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, it was not expected that the Gunners would enact much business during the winter window.

However, the club has seen many departures and even a couple of signings with the latest, Martin Odegaard, expected to be announced very soon. Adding to the acquisition of Mat Ryan.

Yet more exits were speculated upon and yesterday evening it was reported that German defender Shkodran Mustafi was in talks with the club with the end goal of termination to his own deal.

‘Shkodran Mustafi is in talks with Arsenal to end his contract early amid interest from clubs in Germany and Italy, understands,’ wrote Arsenal correspondent Chris Wheatley.

Technical director Edu has shown to have conducted some good business at the club with the acquisitions of Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey in the summer and now the Brazilian is showing a ruthlessness about his role regarding moving players on it seems.

Mustafi’s father and agent denies talk

However, contradictory to the reports, Mustafi’s father and agent has come out and denied accusations that his son is in fact in discussions with Arsenal regarding a possible termination of his deal.

“I also read the rumours yesterday that Shkodran is set to terminate his contract. To clarify: there are currently no talks about a contract termination,” said his father and agent Kujtim Mustafi.

Despite this, he has however admitted that the likelihood is his son will be moving on from the club, at the latest, in the summer.

“The fact is that Shkodran will leave the club in the summer at the latest,” he confirmed. Using the words ‘at the latest’ do imply that a January departure is feasible and would occur if the club can agree a deal with either the player to sell, loan or just simply allow him to leave to another club.

If Arsenal could gain any financial income from the deal beyond the simple saving of wages, it would be of incredible benefit to find a possible move for a back-up left-back or to finance a more serious summer signing.
