Argentina win Copa America
With all of the focus very much on the final of the European Championships, some may have missed that the South American major international tournament final was also on this weekend.
The Copa America brought together two of its continent’s biggest opponents and saw a nervy and electric clash between both Argentina and Brazil.
With former Barcelona teammates Neymar and Lionel Messi going up against one another only one could take away the prize and on this occasion Messi and Argentina came out on top.
This was Messi’s first international tournament victory with Argentina. The historical comparisons with Diego Maradona have always lingered but with the late ex-Napoli talisman having a World Cup medal to his name, many felt he would always be on top.
The Copa America win elevates Messi to an even higher level amongst the Argentinian people and brings an end to a lengthy trophy drought for the nation.
Messi was seen speaking to his family via video call with them unable to attend due to the pandemic’s effect on Brazil where it was hosted.
