Martinelli hints at plan to start again for Arsenal on Thursday against Slavia Prague

Martinelli hints at plan to start again for Arsenal on Thursday against Slavia Prague

Arteta ignoring fan views

Mikel Arteta is seemingly getting more and more frustrated being asked questions regarding his decision-making around the absence and now selection of Gabriel Martinelli into the Arsenal team.

The Brazilian started the match against Sheffield United and scored the second goal to give Arsenal a lead in which they would eventually improve on and take all three points from Bramall Lane.

After the match, Arteta was asked whether or not the fan pressure to see Martinelli play was having any impact on his decision making but he rejected the idea of looking into what social media is saying.

“I’m not aware because I don’t want to read that because I don’t want anything affecting me. What is affecting me is what I see every day, how he is, all the staff and what are our opinions are, and how we want him to develop,” said Arteta.

The Spaniard though was pressed further about if it would be difficult to leave him out, after scoring, on Thursday.

“You’re putting pressure on me now!” Arteta exclaimed.

Arsenal need to score when they travel to Slavia Prague on Thursday evening and with Martinelli they have a player who will surely add threat to the team.

Martinelli ready for Thursday

In his post-match interview, Gabriel Martinelli was clearly overjoyed with his goal. Speaking in full English to Arsenal’s media team, the 19-year-old explained that he is always ready when he is called upon.

“I am feeling a bit tired but I’m so happy with the goal and even happier with the victory and the three points,” said Martinelli.

“I work every single day in training, you need to prepare yourself because when Mikel needs you, you need to be there to play and show something.”

Despite being substituted, Martinelli was quick to confirm that he will be ready to play on Thursday, leaving fans hoping this will hint at yet another start for the Brazilian.

“No, I am alright to play on Thursday,” confirmed the 19-year-old.
