Manchester United line up move for ex-Lyon and Roma boss to take interim charge

Manchester United scramble

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the then-Manchester United manager, left the club on Sunday morning, it was announced.

His departure was necessary following a dismal showing during a 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road.

While it feels as though it has come months too late, it is ultimately the only decision that was left open to the Manchester United hierarchy after a terrible run of form that has seen the club slip from 3rd to 8th place in the Premier League, and a full 12 points off league leaders Chelsea.

However, in the days that have followed, the sheer ineptitude of those above Ole in the hierarchy has been on display, too, as the Red Devils have been scrambling to find a new manager, in a manner not akin to the way that Tottenham did in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino, seemingly their first choice, is off the table, after he confirmed his happiness in Paris, while Luis Enrique, Zinedine Zidane and Julien Lopetegui all appear out of the running, too.

Enter, the next candidate.

Rudi Garcia being spoken to

Although Michael Carrick won his first game as United caretaker boss, he is not expected to be in charge long. With Poch now allegedly off the table, Manchester United are back to plan A, appointing an interim man until the end of the season.

And, as per French outlet L’Equipe, that man could well be Rudi Garcia.

Garcia has had a spell in charge of Roma, as well as stints at French clubs Lille, Marseille and Lyon, but left the latter after failing to gain them Champions League football last season.

While not the most glamorous name, could he be the one to steady the Manchester United ship?
