‘Man United’s top summer signing is Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos’

Man United & Toni Kroos

In somewhat strange timing, the Independent on Monday afternoon have dropped a potential enormous piece of transfer gossip.

Of course, clubs aren’t open for business until the season ends in another three months.

And then the football calendar only speeds up, as attention will switch to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

So how will that all complicate big deals happening in the summer?

With that in mind, the Independent have claimed Man United’s number one summer target is Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.

Will Real Madrid sell Toni Kroos?

Kroos has long been linked with a possible Man United switch.

Will the 28-year-old make that happen this summer? Real Madrid will surely fight to keep their German World Cup winner, who is under contract until 2022.

Nevertheless the Independent report the following:

Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos is Jose Mourinho’s main midfield target for the summer, as he seeks to enhance Manchester United’s midfield.

In the wake of a lot of speculation and analysis about Paul Pogba’s role, the Portuguese admitted that he is actively looking to bring in a midfield player in the summer, and The Independent understands the player is Kroos.

In a sweetener to convince Man United fans the deal could go through it’s claimed Real Madrid “will make some high-profile sales in the summer, as they seek to overhaul their squad and buy a huge star.”

However, should Kroos unattainable, United’s plan B is to go for Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl. He;s also been linked with Man City.

It’s believed Mourinho’s intentions would be to play Kroos alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and either Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford would fill out the forward positions.

It’s worth remembering that Michael Carrick will retire at the end of the season.

Sadly, the Independent fail to detail how much Man United would have to pay to sign Kroos.

Considering current market values, would United be able to sign the German in the prime of his career, for less than 100 million pounds?
