Man United’s Andreas Pereira reportedly on verge of Lazio switch

Andreas Pereira

The latest word stemming from the European media this evening suggests that out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is all set to join Serie A outfit Lazio on loan.

Reds struggles

24-year-old Pereira, a product of the Red Devils’ youth system, has of course found game-time difficult to come by over the early weeks of the new season.

Whilst he managed a respectable 18 Premier League starts across 2019/20, the campaign’s run-in saw the Brazilian fall heavily out-of-favour, behind all of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Scott McTominay.

Donny van de Beek, meanwhile, has since added further depth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s options in the middle of the park.

In turn, Pereira has not even been afforded a spot in United’s squad across the club’s first 3 outings of the season.

Lazio bound

As such, the most logical course of action for Pereira, at such a delicate point in his career, has long appeared to be a move elsewhere.

And, as outlined above, such a move now appears ready to come to fruition.

As per a growing number of reports in the European media, Pereira is inching towards a transfer to Serie A outfit Lazio.

It was first revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano early on Sunday that negotiations between the Biancocelesti and Manchester United had ‘just started’:

Ensuing reports, however, have gone a step further.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero assure that Pereira is in fact just ‘one step away’ from the Stadio Olimpico.

The deal cited would see the South American spend the 2020/21 campaign on loan in Serie A, based around the agreement that Lazio would then make his arrival permanent next summer for a fee of €10 million.

Brazilian journalist Fred Caldeira has also pointed towards a loan deal, albeit with a vastly differing situation set to come into play next summer.

The Esporte Interativo representative instead suggests that Lazio will have the option to buy Pereira, for a somewhat outlandish sum of €27 million.

Manchester United would reportedly also maintain a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement:
