The future of Barcelona attacker Pedro was always likely to be big news this evening.

Manchester United have been chasing Pedro for a few weeks now and a move to Old Trafford, despite the late interest of Manchester City, has looked likely.

Pedro extended his contract at Barcelona earlier this summer, but as a result lowered his release clause at the Nou Camp from 150 million euros to 30 million euros.

But, due to the illness suffered by Neymar (mumps) – Barcelona have rebuffed the Manchester United interest in the hope of playing Pedro in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla in Tblisi tonight.

Tonight, Manchester United have received two very good pieces of news:

1. Pedro has been left out of the starting line-up for the match against Sevilla.

2. Pedro, according to reports on Catalan radio, who cite Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez, confirm that the Spanish attacker wants to leave the Nou Camp.

Pedro’s involvement this evening – he is on the bench – does not have any impact on whether he can play for Manchester United in Europe this season.

A host of Tweets on Pedro’s desire to leave Barcelona can be seen below.
