Manchester battle over Atletico Madrid stars
Manchester United and Manchester City look set to go head to head in the summer transfer window with both clubs targeting Atletico Madrid midfielders.
With the current Premier League drawing to a close, clubs are now prepping themselves for a busy summer transfer window.
That includes both Manchester giants United and City.
While City are in the middle of an intense title race the club look to be planning for next season.
Pep Guardiola’s City were even linked with a huge move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
Now, they have some competition in that regard but there’s also another Atleti player Man City are targeting.
Saul or Rodri to the Etihad?
First up, ESPN claim that Manchester United have entered the race to sign Saul.
They claim that ‘Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side see Saul as a good fit to partner Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in midfield’ following reports that Ander Herrera has agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
As a result, Man City have explored alternatives and have supposedly found the perfect one in Saul’s Atletico teammate Rodri.
According to ESPN’s report, ‘Guardiola believes Rodri would be more suited for the position as the 22-year-old is the real holding midfielder at Atletico Madrid with Saul playing in a more advanced role and even as a full-back and a centre-back.’
If that is true, Saul could be on his way to United while Rodri could be heading to the Etihad with Atletico Madrid losing two of their most talented midfielders.
