Ole Gunnar Solskjær gives fresh injury updates on Shaw & Maguire ahead of Champions League fixture

Man United duo doubtful for midweek

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær delivered a fresh injury update on defensive duo Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire in the wake of the Red Devils’ disappointing 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at Old Trafford earlier today.

Shaw limped off the pitch after just 35-minutes of action against Dean Smith’s victorious Villa outfit, with the creativity seen from his highly effective overlapping runs a big miss for Man United as they struggled to break the deadlock.

To make matters worse, Harry Maguire would eventually follow in Shaw’s footsteps when he too had to call for the medics to remove him with a shade over 20-minutes of action left at the Theatre of Dreams.

Now, according to Solskjær, the key backline duo are doubts for when Man United host recent nemesis Villarreal in their second Champions League group stage match at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

If their absences goes on to be confirmed, Shaw’s natural replacement will undoubtedly be Alex Telles – who replaced him against Villa – while there are two options to potentially fill the Maguire void at the heart of the defense; one of Eric Bailly, or Victor Lindelöf.

Worst possible time for a potential injury crisis

Man United fans will be sweating over the availability of the England international pair, with a string of upcoming fixtures that are sure to put the Red Devils’ strong start to the season to the test.

Solskjær will have been left very disappointed by the home defeat, given a run of eight difficult fixtures against Villarreal, Everton, Leicester City, Atalanta (twice), Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City await.
