Injury doubt & long-term absentee included as Man United squad depart for Chelsea

Man United boosted by returning pair

Manchester United is off to an away day in London tomorrow as Michael Carrick’s Red Devils are set to clash with table-topping Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and can welcome back two to the traveling squad as they hope to steal points from the Blues.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Brazilian international Fred – who suffered a twisted ankle against Villarreal in the midweek Champions League clash – has been included in the traveling party and his presence likely means a run-out against Tuchel’s men.

Phil Jones was also spotted by photographers as the club left from Manchester Airport, as the United contingent is also set to include club captain Harry Maguire, despite his inability to feature tomorrow as he serves a suspension.

French international duo Paul Pogba and Raphaël Varane remain out as well, which means Carrick will have to once again rely on Victor Lindelöf and Eric Bailly in the heart of the United backline against the current Premier League leaders.

Rangnick appointment could affect Ronaldo’s chances

As Manchester United is set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager for the remainder of the season, past comments from the German tactician could paint a frustrating picture for star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Godfather of Gegenpressing was once asked about whether he would sign one of Ronaldo or Lionel Messi while at RB Leipzig, and the potential short-term United boss responded critically;

“It would be absurd to think that it could work with them here [Leipzig]. They are both too old and too expensive.”

Though Rangnick would walk into a position at Manchester United without the need to buy the Portuguese legend, there may be a scenario that plays out where the German overlooks the aging forward given his desire to instill attacking football that also features a high-intensity press led from the forward line.

Whether Ronaldo and Rangnick will get on remains to be seen, but the potential appointment of the German could ignite fireworks at Old Trafford; and not just in a good way.
