Man United open Samuel Umtiti talks

Man United & Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti

Writing for the Daily Record, Duncan Castles, often labelled Jose Mourinho’s mouthpiece in the media, has dropped an eye-catching transfer story on Tuesday.

It’s been claimed that Man United could take advantage of Barcelona’s stalling to sign up Samuel Umtiti.

It’s worth noting that Samuel Umtiti’s agent is his brother Yannick Umtiti.

There is no reason to suggest that the transfer rumour has been leaked by the Barcelona defender or anyone from his inner circle. Instead it feels far likelier that Castles would receive his information from an Old Trafford source.

Samuel Umtiti’s Barcelona exit clause

The 24-year-old French international is under contract at the Camp Nou until 2021.

Moreover, Umtiti has been fantastic for Barcelona this season alongside Gerard Pique.

The Catalans have been incredibly tight at the back: they’ve only let in 13 goals all La Liga season, one more than Atletico Madrid.

Yet, according to Castles, Umtiti could be poached by Man United this summer:

Barcelona are stalling on meeting the personal terms demanded by Samuel Umtiti, the France international defender targeted by Manchester United as a close-season reinforcement.

Umtiti’s current contract includes a €60million release clause well within the budget of the English Premier League club.

It is understood that United have approached Umtiti to assess the Frenchman’s interest in exchanging Camp Nou for Old Trafford.

Has the story come from Diario Gol?

But is there any truth to the story?

Cynics will wonder if Duncan Castles relied on a report from the bogus website Diario Gol from the last few days.

Diario Gol have a reputation of spewing awful transfer rumours on a regular basis.

Diario Gol went a bit further than Castles, suggesting that Umtiti has already provisionally agreed a Man United move because the Red Devils will pay him more.
