Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri subjected to horrific abuse vs Red Star Belgrade

Xherdan Shaqiri & Serbia

Liverpool recently beat Red Star Belgrade 4-0 in the Champions League.

This week, Swiss newspaper Blick have circulated a new video which has reportedly been doing the rounds on social media in Eastern Europe in recent days.

The video reveals how a Serbian fan of Red Star issued a shocking tirade of abuse at Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shaqiri attracts plenty of hate from Serbian football fans for political reasons.

During the 2018 World Cup, Switzerland recorded a memorable 2-1 win over Serbia.

Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri were fined after the Serbia game.

That’s because both players displayed political celebrations in the game.

Both Xhaka and Shaqiri, plus Arsenal’s Stephan Lichtsteiner, all performed the same gesture in the match.

The two-headed eagle is the symbol on Albania’s national flag.

In the video circulated by Blick, Shaqiri was showered with a truly disgusting tirade of verbal abuse during the Champions League match at Anfield.

With the Liverpool midfielder stood close to the sideline, the male voice screamed out offensive abuse including “I’ll f*** your mother”.

It’s unclear if Shaqiri heard the abuse, however the Liverpool star failed to react.

Of course, this video raises fears about how Shaqiri will be treated in the reverse leg in Belgrade.

Liverpool take on Red Star on November 6.
