Riyad Mahrez

Shocker for Leicester: Man City’s ‘large & late’ move for Riyad Mahrez

Man City & Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez

Could this be the late drama in the January transfer window?

A potentially enormous rumour have sprung up on Tuesday afternoon as it’s being claiming Manchester City may be launching a late transfer window assault on Riyad Mahrez.

The news has been reported by well known English journalist Alan Nixon, who writes for the Sun.

It’s being claimed that Man City have taken a large and late interest in Leicester star Riyad Mahrez. The Sun report:

Money is no object in the Mahrez move but they will face opposition from the Foxes heirarchy who have turned down advances in the past and have the cash to do so again.

City want Mahrez today and the player is aware of their interest and seeking showdown talks to force the transfer.

It’s believed Man City would offer £60 million for Mahrez.

UPDATE: The story has been confirmed by the Telegraph’s John Percy.

Leroy Sane’s bad injury

Of course, the Mahrez story has come on the same day that Leroy Sane has been ruled out for six weeks.

The German winger received a horrible kick to his ankle in the FA Cup win at Cardiff.

Sane’s absence, combined with the losses of Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph, has left Guardiola with a problem.

While Bernardo Silva is in line to replace Sane, he doesn’t offer the same width as the German.

Mahrez, however, could plug that spot in City’s team perfectly. Plus the Algerian is eligible to play in the Champions League.

Riyad Mahrez & agent

On the Totally Football Show podcast this week, there was an interest chat about Riyad Mahrez and his agent.

Unlike most big named stars in the Premier League, Mahrez doesn’t have a super-agent in his corner.

Indeed, he still has an Algerian agent, who only has a couple of other lower league footballers on his books.

The case was made that if Mahrez was under different representation he would have left Leicester a long time ago.
