Leicester City approach former Arsenal target Orkun Kokcu about possible loan deal with purchase option

Leicester City approach former Arsenal target Orkun Kokcu about possible loan deal with purchase option

Rodgers open to signings

Leicester City are enjoying an unbelievably impressive season, and remain in the thick of the Premier League title race, sitting just behind Manchester City and Manchester United in the table.

Brendan Rodgers has seen some excellent transfer business conducted by the club over the last couple seasons, with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet and Timothy Castagne having all been brought in. However, the Leicester boss is nevertheless keen to add more attacking bite to his midfield this January.

“For a period of time, we’ve known the type we would want,” Rodgers said. “We’ve had a few players on the list. We have a number of targets, but it’s just about the availability of those at this stage of the season.”

“Whether we get one in or not, I’m not sure. I would love to get another attacking midfield player because that would also allow one or two of our boys to get out and get playing, but if we don’t, there will be nothing that the club haven’t done.”

“If we can get someone in, great, if not, we’ll just have to wait until the summer.”

Securing Champions League qualification would of course aid Leicester City’s hopes of signing some even more established talent in the summer window. Rodgers will be more than aware of this, as his side push towards a strong finish after moving past the halfway point of the campaign.

Leicester target Kokcu

One such player whom the Foxes are reportedly targeting is Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu. The now-senior Turkish international was linked with a summer move to Arsenal in 2020, but ended up signing a new contract with the Dutch side until 2025.

The 20-year-old has risen through the ranks at Feyenoord, becoming a regular in the club’s first-team, and recorded 3 goals and 6 assists in his 35 appearances last season. He has so far failed to score in the Eredivisie this season, but did notch in Feyenoord’s Europa League group stage fixtures.

If Leicester manage to bring Kokcu in, it would provide competition for the likes of Harvey Barnes and James Maddison, who have both had stellar seasons with the Foxes.

But, with a lengthy contract at the club, Feyenoord will not allow him to leave on the cheap, and Leicester’s proposed loan with purchase option was already knocked back.
