Big blow for Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss games against Bournemouth and Atletico Madrid through injury.
The Reds are currently going through a pivotal part of their campaign.
Having performed brilliantly for most of the season, Liverpool have hit somewhat of a roadblock in terms of performances.
The Reds have lost three of their last four games, coming against Atletico Madrid, Watford and Chelsea.
With their invincible hopes over, the Champions League will now be Liverpool’s main focus.
However, they will have to overcome a 1-0 aggregate scoreline without star goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Alisson to miss both Bournemouth and Atletico Madrid
As revealed by Jurgen Klopp in his pre-Bournemouth press conference, Alisson will miss the game this weekend, and also the Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
“Unfortunately, Alisson is out,” Klopp explained, quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“He was hurt in training before the Chelsea game, it was a little incident. We all thought it was nothing and the plan was for him to be on the bench.
“But then we didn’t want to take any risk so left him out of the squad. A scan the next day found something so now he is out.
“He is not available for tomorrow and then the next week. We have to judge the situation.
“I don’t want to say no [for Merseyside derby] but I am not sure. We have to judge the situation next week. After the international break he will be 100% but we will see.”
When asked about the nature of the injury, Klopp revealed that it was a small muscle in the hip region.
Safe to say, this comes at a bad time for Liverpool, following back-up goalkeeper Adrian’s blunder against Chelsea.
