Jürgen Klopp takes aim at Mikel Arteta over touchline spat: ‘Everyone goes for Mane’

Klopp reflects on altercation with Arteta

“”It wasn’t a really big deal.

The situation is that it was a completely clean situation. I asked ‘what do you want for that?’. There’s no contact really. I’m really sick of these situations. Everyone tries to go for Sadio in these moments.” – Jürgen Klopp

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp opened up about a spat with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on the Anfield touchline earlier today, when the two bosses came toe-to-toe in front of a raucous Liverpool home support.

The altercation came after Red’s winger Sadio Mané challenged Gunners right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu in the air, causing Arteta to gesticulate that the Senegalese winger had potentially led with his elbow.

As a result, the two headmasters had to be separated by staff the fourth official as heated words were exchanged, which eventually saw match referee Michael Oliver book the pair of them.

Liverpool stroll in Anfield demolition

Despite the firey passion shown by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool had the last laugh after the Reds ran out resounding 4-0 winners on Merseyside, putting a stop to the eight-match undefeated run the Gunners were previously enjoying, winning six in the process.

It was a vital win for Klopp and Liverpool that saw the Reds climb to second in the table but still four points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

But the result cemented their position in the top four after West Ham lost 1-0 on the road to Wolves, while Liverpool gained further separation between them an Arsenal who now trail the Anfield outfit by five points.

Liverpool’s next opponent comes in another home fixture, with Portuguese giants FC Porto traveling to Merseyside as they look to fight for second spot in Group B while the Reds are coasting into the knockout stages after being confirmed group winners.
