How Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reacted to Mo Salah finishing 7th on Ballon d’Or ballot

Klopp reacts to Salah voting snub

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp was left bewildered after Reds star forward Mohamed Salah failed to finish high up the ballon in this year’s Ballon d’Or.

According to the Mirror, Klopp was surprised that his main man only managed to finish 7th in the voting for the prestigious award, with Lionel Messi netting his seventh of his career, pipping Bayern Munich goalscoring machine Robert Lewandowski, who Klopp felt deserved the award ahead of the Argentine;

“I was surprised about his position. Journalists vote for the Ballon d’Or so… if you think he should be higher up, you should convince your colleagues!

You can always give it to Lionel Messi for the career he’s had, but if you don’t give it to Robert Lewandowski this time, then he will never get it. And Mo should have been higher up, definitely.

Salah will have opportunities in the years to come. Both players [Salah and Lewandowski] are at their best at the moment and will have more chances to win it. I don’t know if the record is beatable. I just have to accept it but I’m not sure if it can be beaten.”

Egyptian star in the midst of another superb season

Mohamed Salah had a fantastic 2020-21 campaign last term, netting 31-goals and adding 7-assists in 51-appearances in all competitions, but it is his current form during 2021-22 that has many feeling as though the Egyptian star deserved to be much higher up in the final voting.

At current, Salah has bagged 17-goals in just 18-appearances in all competitions, while adding 9-assists on top of it.

Apart from Robert Lewandowski, there is probably no better forward on form in Europe this calendar year than the former AS Roma, Fiorentina, Chelsea, and FC Basel man.

But perhaps Jürgen Klopp is correct; if someone else – in this case, Lewandowski – was incapable of winning it this year (and indeed, last year as well) then maybe no one else will unless Lionel Messi finally retires or continues to not perform for new club Paris Saint-Germain.
