Injury update on Bukayo Saka & Emile Smith Rowe ahead of Arsenal vs Liverpool

Injury update on Bukayo Saka & Emile Smith Rowe ahead of Arsenal vs Liverpool

Smith Rowe, Saka updates

Arsenal are approaching their return to Premier League action, and are faced with a difficult test against Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Gunners will be hoping to have as many of their first-team squad available, and face an agonizing wait to discover the extent of both Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka’s injuries.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match, Mikel Arteta discussed the pair, and provided an update on their respective statuses. When asked about Saka, the Arsenal boss revealed that he is yet to return to training:

“He hasn’t trained with the team yet. He’s been doing some individual work. We had to pull him out of the squad. He’s feeling better but hasn’t trained with the team yet,” said Arteta.

Smith Rowe did play during the international break, but suffered an injury which sidelined him for England U21s’ most recent outing. Arteta is hopeful, though, that he will be back in training tomorrow.

“He has some discomfort in his hip. That’s why they decided to keep him out. We will see today with the physios and if he’s okay for training tomorrow,” the Spaniard said.

Laca future waits for summer

With the end of the season approaching, and the opening of the summer transfer window looming, there are plenty of stories circulating about a number of players across the Premier League landscape.

One such story surrounds Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, who will have just a single year left on his contract upon the conclusion of the campaign, and has been linked with a number of clubs.

Mikel Arteta spoke positively about these links, revealing his opinion that it can only be a good thing when one of his players is being courted by other sides.

“I’m always happy when people talk about our players and speculate – that means they’re doing well and getting attention from other clubs,” Arteta said.

“The situation with Laca we will address in the summer and speak to him and just propose the future that we want, and that’s it. Up to now I just want players focused and only focused on performing and getting the best out of them for the team.”

Despite Arteta’s positive outlook on the situation, he will have a decision to make regarding Lacazette’s contract, with a potential sale set to secure much-needed funds to utilise elsewhere.
