Images: Szoboszlai scores second senior hat-trick in 8-2 Red Bull Salzburg victory
Szoboszlai hattrick
Dominik Szoboszlai is quickly becoming one of the best talents on the continent. The Hungarian helped his nation to qualify for the European Championships with an unbelievable solo goal in the dying minutes of their recent play-off meeting with Iceland. He also netted in the Champions League’s group stages against both Lokomotiv Moscow and Atletico Madrid.
The youngster has continued to impress domestically, too, and in yesterday’s trip to St. Polten, scored his second senior hat-trick, as a midfielder, at just 20 years of age.
Footage of the clash is yet to officially surface, but 101 has images of his three goals. The haul included two penalties and a simple tap in, which could be put down as one of the simplest hat-tricks you will ever see. Salzburg ran out 8-2 winners in Saint Polten, after falling to a shock home defeat at the hands of Sturm Graz last time out.
This marked the Bulls’ first league defeat since March, first league loss by more than one goal since February 2019 and, amazingly, a first home league defeat by more than one goal since August 2012. It is fair to say that Salzburg have a significant hold over the Austrian Bundesliga.
After Robert Ljubicic handled the ball effectively saving Szoboszlai’s open goal, the Hungarian smashed the resulting penalty into the goal’s left side netting. (0-2)
After Robert Ljubicic handled the ball effectively saving Szoboszlai’s open goal, the Hungarian smashed the resulting penalty into the goal’s left side netting. Ljubicic was again at fault for the second penalty. Bundling over young German forward Karim Adeyemi. Szoboszlai stepped up again and smashed the ball into the same position as the first. (0-4)
The 3rd goal for the Hungarians was a simple tap in. Adeyemi ran through and slipped the ball to Szoboszlai to tap into an empty net. (1-5)
A wanted man
Arsenal, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have all been linked with possible moves for Hungarian international Szoboszlai of late. Red Bull Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch has not been at all coy on the possibility of the midfielder moving on in January, either:
“Yes. The reality is that a guy like Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to have many suitors this winter,” said the American coach speaking on Futbol with Grant Wahl.
“He’s an incredible talent, and I say this: When you coach young players, you have to love them and love the fact that they’re going to move on and love that they’re going to have big opportunities to prove themselves and show how good they are.”

“If you’re only worried about how it affects your success, then you’re not really going to ever be effective at coaching and leading young people.”
The reported €25 million release clause in Szoboszlai’s contract certainly represents an achievable figure for clubs across the continent, and a fight for his signature will likely commence on January 1st, if it has not done already.
Arsenal are considering Dominik Szoboszlai as a possible alternative to Houssem Aouar after ‘following’ him for ‘years’
