Gundogan to play if fit

The Premier League player of the month Ilkay Gundogan has been one of the most influential players in Pep Guardiola’s squad this season. The German international has scored a number of goals in important moments including two in the 3-0 victory over Spurs on Saturday afternoon.

The performance though was tarnished by the fact that the 30-year old suffered an injury which could keep him out of Manchester City’s next game.

After the match, Pep Guardiola could do little to provide much insight into how damaging the injury will be to Gundogan.

“We will see tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. He told me it was tight and he is intelligent to see it but we are going to see,” said the former Barca and Bayern boss.

But if he is passed fit he will play said the Spanish coach.

“If he is fit, he’s going to play. I said many times he could play as a false nine and people laughed at me and I understood that but he has a sense to arrive at goal. It was a clear penalty and after he had two goals, he had the right tempo to arrive there.”

“He is so good in those terms. I’m more than delighted for his performances. He won Player of the Month last month and if he continues playing this way in February he is going to win it again.”

City will be keeping everything crossed he will be available for the test at Goodison Park.

Not spotted in training

The latest updates though are not too positive, after Gundogan was not spotted in Manchester City training on Sunday.

Manchester City released a video on Sunday showing fans that the players were involved in some light activities after the game against the North London club.

Typically days after the games are mainly used for recovery but with a match incoming on Wednesday, it is likely that Guardiola would have wanted to work on something before the midweek clash.

It is understood that Pep Guardiola will give an update in his press conference ahead of the match with the Toffees.
