Heung-Min Son signs new deal keeping him in North London until 2026

New deal for Sonny

Heung-Min Son has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him remain at Tottenham Hotspur until 2025, improving on his old deal that was due to expire in 2023.

The new contract will keep the South Korean at the club until he is 34 years old, and is a fair reward for the club’s second top goalscorer last campaign.

Son joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen in a 27 million pound deal in July 2015, and has since appeared 280 times for the Lilywhites, scoring 107 times and providing 64 assists.

Speaking on Tottenham’s official website, the South Korean said:

“It was already a big honour to play here for six years, the Club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here.

“It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff. There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon.”

Meanwhile, Fabio Paratici added:

“Everyone can see the real positive impact he has on the Club, both on and off the field, and we are delighted that he will play a part in what we are trying to achieve in the coming years.”

Kane uncertainty

With Son tied to a new deal, attentions will now surely turn to Harry Kane. The official line from the club is that the player is not for sale, despite making his desire to move clear. However, reports have linked the Englishman with a mega move to Manchester City.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein provided some clarity on the situation, saying that there is no chance to do a deal unless the price becomes “outrageously high”.

With Son’s future now in north London, Spurs will be hoping Harry Kane follows suit and retains their seemingly telepathic partnership.
