Hasenhuttl confirms Danny Ings blow ahead of Southampton’s meeting with Leicester/Che Adams latest
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl this afternoon provided an update on his squad, ahead of their upcoming meeting with Leicester City. The news on Danny Ings, though, was less than positive.
Leicester vs Southampton
The Saints are set to return to Premier League action on Saturday night, in a crunch trip to the King Power Stadium.
The clash of course marks a key one in the race for European football in the English top-flight, with both sides having exceeded expectations to this point in the campaign.
As things stand, it is Leicester who hold the advantage, in 4th spot.
Southampton, though, are just 3 points adrift of the Foxes in 7th, and will head into the weekend’s action both rested and brimming with confidence.
This comes with the club’s last outing, in the form of a 1-0 downing of champions Liverpool, having come a full 10 days ago.

The Hampshire outfit had been due to get their FA Cup campaign underway alongside the rest of the Premier League’s clubs this past weekend, but eventually saw their scheduled meeting with Shrewsbury postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the League One club.
‘Out for the weekend’
And, as confirmed this afternoon, Southampton have since been forced to deal with a Covid situation of their own.
Ahead of his side’s fast approaching trip to the King Power, Ralph Hasenhuttl held his latest press conference a short time ago.
And, during the media exchange, the Saints boss went on to confirm that one of his key performers, in the form of Danny Ings, recently returned a positive test.
In turn, the prolific hitman has spent the last 10 days in self isolation, and looks set to miss out when Southampton make the trip to Leicester on Saturday night:
‘We’ve had one positive test since the Liverpool game; Danny Ings, so he’s been out for the past 10 days.’
‘When you stick to the protocols, you minimise the risks and that’s what we’re continuing to do. I don’t know if Danny can come back [to training] tomorrow, but it looks like he’s out for the weekend.’
Elsewhere on the Saints personnel front, Hasenhuttl added:
‘Michael Obafemi has had surgery and Nathan Tella has problems with his muscle. We have a few problems in the moment which gives me a bit of a headache.’
‘We’ve not got the chance to use all the recovery equipment we have in the building at the moment and we had a shorter pre-season so that plays a part. Reddie, Jannik and Moussa are all longer-term injuries.’
Ings’ strike partner Che Adams, and shot-stopper Alex McCarthy, who recently returned to training following his own bout of Covid-19, though, will be available for selection:
‘Alex [McCarthy] and Ché Adams have come back in, so they will both be available.’
