Hakimi commits future to Inter Milan scuppering Arsenal transfer plans

Inter Milan's Achraf Hakimi has pledged his long-term future to the club which has effectively ended any pursuit by Arsenal.

Hakimi commits future to Inter

Arsenal had been linked with a move for Inter Milan and Moroccan right wing-back Achraf Hakimi. The former Real Madrid youth product is having a stellar season and with the Gunners looking for options there, the top class 22-year-old made sense.

However, Hakimi himself seems to have scuppered any hope Arsenal had of doing a deal – if there ever was hope.

“I’m planning my future with Inter. I hope to stay for a long time, I’m happy here,” said Hakimi.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano said that whilst it is Arsenal’s intention to sign a right-back with Hector Bellerin set to leave, talks over Hakimi have never begun.

‘Arsenal will sign a new RB but have never opened official talks for Hakimi as of today. Lamptey is not on top of the list. Bellerin’s gonna leave the club,’ he wrote on social media.

Arteta on Chambers

The man who has come in surprisingly towards the back end of the season has been Calum Chambers.

Since suffering from a major injury, he used the early season as a rehabilitation period playing matches with the youth team and in the Europa League group stages.

His performance in the 3-3 draw with West Ham in which Arsenal came from 3 goals behind drew praise from his manger.

“He was really good. He’s been training really well. He’s a player who gives us something else. He was superb. He was really efficient in the final third as well. I think he had a super performance,” said Arteta.

Arteta was not the only one full of praise for the former Southampton defender. Alexandre Lacazette also had plenty of positives for the 26-year-old after the comeback.

“A lot of credit. He came back from a big injury. He worked a lot in training, individually as well. When he had a chance he showed that he can play for Arsenal. I’m very happy for him,” said the Frenchman.

Could there be scope for Arsenal to invest in other areas in the knowledge that Chambers has been so excellent for them?
