Guardiola spoke with Dortmund manager about Jude Bellingham

Guardiola full of Bellingham praise

Manchester City had to come from behind against Borussia Dortmund yesterday evening, to progress to the last-4 of the Champions League.

After going behind to a Jude Bellingham goal, a penalty from Riyad Mahrez, followed by a long-range strike from Phil Foden, proved enough to send the Sky Blues through.

After the match, though, Pep Guardiola admitted to being blown away by the quality of Bellingham.

“He’s so good for a 17-year-old. I saw him when he didn’t get the ball from the central defenders and he was shouting at them, demanding the ball. I spoke with his manager, Edin, and he said what you see in these two games is like every training session,” said Guardiola.

Could the Spanish coach’s admiration for the former Birmingham City midfielder hint at interest in a possible future move?

City’s midfield options

Considering the fact that Bellingham plays in the central area in midfield, City could well be keen.

The Citizens have used a variety of players in their pivot positions this season, including Fernandinho, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan.

Guardiola’s system has even seen his full-backs – Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko – position themselves as additional midfield assets.

Brazilian Fernandinho’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has confirmed that a decision on his future will wait until the campaign’s conclusion.

“I know how much my teammates need me. I made a decision to only decide my future when the season is over. I already had an offer, not to be part of Pep’s staff, but to be an employee of the club,” he said.

With the 35-year-old looking likely to leave, could Bellingham be on City’s list?
