Gabriel’s agent confirms Lille star turned down more money to join Arsenal: ‘100% because of Edu and Arteta’

The representative of Arsenal-bound defender Gabriel Magalhaes has confirmed that the ‘project’ laid out by Mikel Arteta and co. convinced the Lille man to turn down more lucrative offers from elsewhere.

Gunners switch incoming

The future of in-demand stopper Gabriel has of course been the subject of widespread speculation this summer.

On the back of a stellar campaign in France, during which he played a key role in Lille clinching a European berth, the 22-year-old has been linked with a host of Europe’s top clubs.

Recent weeks have seen the likes of Manchester UnitedEvertonNapoli and Chelsea all tipped as potential destinations.

Throughout the rumours, though, one club have remained a clear frontrunner in the race for Gabriel.

The outfit in question? Arsenal.

As such, it came as little surprise when, late on Saturday night, a number of reliable sources finally confirmed that an agreement had been reached, with the Brazilian set to put pen-to-paper on a contract with the Gunners imminently.

‘Nowhere near the best proposal’

As outlined above, though, Gabriel’s agent has this evening confirmed that, had the Lille man opted to prioritise financial gain over all else, Arsenal would in fact have missed out on his signing.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Freddie Paxton, Guilherme Miranda was drawn on his client’s impending move to the Emirates, with a particular emphasis on the reasoning behind his decision to link up with the Gunners.

And Miranda went on to reveal that, though he received significantly ‘more lucrative’ offers from other clubs, the ‘project’ laid out by Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar proved the key to Gabriel’s eventual choice of north London as his next destination:

‘Arsenal was nowhere near the best proposal [money wise]. Gabriel chose them over more lucrative offers because Edu convinced us of the project. It’s 100% because of Edu Gaspar and Arteta.’
