Everton star dealt injury setback: “Out for a number of weeks”

Everton dealt Doucoure blow

News broke yesterday that Rafael Benitez was going to be without Abdoulaye Doucoure for over a month with a broken foot, putting the brakes on what has been a great start to the season for the Toffees.

The Frenchman had been hugely important amid their opening to the campaign, providing a key link between midfield and attack as well as putting in plenty of defensive work.

While Doucoure will be missed, the Blue half of Merseyside has now been dealt an equally considerable blow on the injury front, with regards to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffers injury setback

One of the players that was expected back in first-team training shortly was prolific forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Englishman has been out of action since August, but has scored 3 in 3 when fit for the Toffees this season.

However, the Everton faithful will have to wait a while longer before he returns, as the club have announced that he has suffered a “setback” in his recovery.

In a statement on their website, the Toffees said:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a quadriceps injury and will remain out for a number of weeks.

The Everton striker has not played since the Blues’ Premier League clash at Brighton & Hove Albion on 28 August, when he scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 victory.

Calvert-Lewin will continue to receive specialist treatment and an update on the England international’s fitness will be provided in due course.

With Richarlison also absent for the time being, the pressure will fall on Salomon Rondon to find the back of the net for Benitez and co.
