Despite Klopp insisting on Liverpool stay, German tipped for national job as Gerrard could make Anfield return

Klopp to Germany/Gerrard to Liverpool

Reports have suggested that Steven Gerrard is being increasingly favoured to take over as the successor to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The Reds are struggling in the Premier League this season, having suffered a major injury crisis at the back. However, their form has also proven poor in the final third, where the majority of the club’s striking force – Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – have been available.

This has led to suggestions that Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp could leave the club.

He has, however, spoken of his intentions to continue, explaining“Did I get the sack or did I leave?! Neither one. I don’t need a break.”

The German national team job could become available after the Euros, with Joachim Low under pressure.

‘Dream’ for Gerrard

Steven Gerrard has previously spoken of the fact that it would be an absolute dream for him to take over at Liverpool, but also reassured fans of his contentment at remaining with Rangers for the time being:

“If I got offered it, it’s a completely different ball game because you are getting offered the Liverpool job. But sitting here where I am now, doing what I am doing, I am fine. I am calm and happy,” said Gerrard on the Greatest Game Podcast.

“If I stay at Rangers for another two, three or four years I am OK—it means I am doing something right and happy. I am in no rush to try and jump, I am not looking over the fence at anything. I am proper content.”

However, the Gers boss added:

“I have to prove I can do it, first and foremost at Rangers or it might have to be Rangers to someone else to someone else.

“But my aim, dream, would be to manage Liverpool Football Club. Of course it would, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t.”

With Liverpool struggling this season, could the arrival of Gerrard come sooner than many expect?
