Cristiano Ronaldo: Drink water, not Coca-Cola
Portugal talisman and global footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo caused a commercial stir in his press conference ahead of his country’s meeting with Hungary.
Ronaldo was due to answer questions alongside Portugal head coach Fernando Santos, and as he sat down noticed some strategically placed bottles of Coca-Cola on the table.
After doing so, the veteran attacker picked both up, and moved them out of shot.
Lifting up his bottle of water, he simply added: “Water”.

Ronaldo historically has not been a fan of his own son indulging in junk food.
“We’ll have to wait and see if my son becomes a great player. At times he eats crisps and drinks fizzy drinks and he knows that makes me angry, but I guess that’s normal behaviour for a ten-year-old boy,” Ronaldo said in 2020.
“He has the potential to be good as he is fast and can beat players. That said, he needs to work hard and show dedication. I won’t apply any pressure on him but if you ask me if I’d like to see him succeed in football, then I’d say ‘yes’.
“However, I want the best for him always and that’s irrespective if he becomes a footballer or a doctor.”
The Messi Pepsi narrative
Ronaldo’s rivalry with Lionel Messi has been a long-standing one. Throughout their careers, the pair have battled to be the best footballer on the planet.
Commercially, both are also huge sponsor hooks, and have represented a number of products, gaining significant income.
However, whilst Ronaldo is averse to promoting fizzy drinks, his Barcelona rival seemingly has very little against it.
Messi has featured in commercials and adverts for Pepsi, a huge rival of Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola are a partner of the European Championships, hence the bottles being placed in front of the Juventus forward.
