Cristiano Ronaldo: More info on his Sporting CP return & plans to play when he’s over 40

Ronaldo’s Sporting return

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is once again the focus of attention, with just a year remaining on his current Juventus deal.

The 36-year-old will play what could be his final international tournament this summer at the European Championships, before staying just one more year in one of Europe’s top-5 leagues.

According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Ronaldo wants to return to Sporting Lisbon, as has been previously noted.

Record add that his family support the decision, and that the former Manchester United man wants to continue playing into his 40s.

Sporting are on the verge of claiming the Liga NOS title for the first time since 2002 – the year prior to Ronaldo’s debut for the senior team.

Santos prepared to advise Ronaldo

Portugal coach Fernando Santos was asked in a recent interview whether he would give advice to Ronaldo about his future.

The winner of Euro 2016 confirmed that he will always help where he can, having coached the legendary attacker since he was 18.

“I give advice to Cristiano personally. I was his head coach when he was 18, and we have a close relationship. We talk a lot, but these are private conversations between friends,” said Santos.

“We don’t really have a coach-player relationship, but it is different when he is in the national team.”

“If he asks me for any advice, I will let him know what I think. When Cristiano is with the national team, he always comes with the same vision, the same passion, the same will, the same joy.

“He always gives 100 percent when he comes to the national team. I don’t think he has any problem in terms of mentality at the moment.”

Ronaldo’s future may be put on hold until at least 2022, but, as football has shown, things can move very quickly, and the Portuguese may be one of them.
