Conte into the record books at Spurs

Tottenham can count their lucky stars after Davinson Sánchez headed home from close range to gift Spurs a narrow 1-0 win at Vicarage Road to climb up to fifth in the Premier League table, but boss Antonio Conte was able to write himself into the club’s record books in the process.

With the latest three-point haul under the Italian headmaster, Conte became the first manager in Tottenham’s history to go undefeated in his first eight league matches at the helm of the north London outfit.

The situation in the Premier League table reads like a dream for Spurs supporters of late, after Nuno Espírito Santo was unable to stand the test of a much bigger task at hand at the helm, ahead of Conte being brought in to re-establish law and order at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And right the ship, he did. After today’s result, Spurs remain joint-second in the form table in their last six Premier League fixtures (4-2-0), while scoring 12-goals and surrendering just three at the other end; only Wolves (2) have allowed fewer of late.

A reputation that continues to grow

After 545-matches on the touchline in an impressive managerial career in the wake of a playing career at the very highest level in Europe, Antonio Conte has continued to build his Premier League credentials during his second stint in England.

Other than his spell at Juventus, no other port of call yielded a better winning percentage than when Conte patrolled the technical area at Stamford Bridge from 2016-18, and that same success rate with Chelsea is currently on display at Tottenham in the early days of his reign in north London.

Spurs have banked a 7-3-1 record under Conte across all competitions since his arrival, and their immediate uptick in results in the Premier League is proof-positive of a managerial track record that has bred results regardless of where he is plying his trade.

If properly backed to bring in the players he deems required to continue to push Tottenham with a view of securing a top-four spot come the end of the season, Spurs may have finally gotten it right after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.
