Latest double injury blow for Chelsea confirmed after West Ham; concerning N’Golo Kanté update

Kanté headlines growing injury crisis at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea is amidst a growing injury crisis at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel after the Blues came away against West Ham earlier today with multiple names added to the triage list.

The German tactician cut a picture of frustration when he spoke about the club’s fitness misfortunes in the wake of their 3-2 loss against the Hammers at the London Stadium, with six players now struggling with injuries for the Blues, including top midfielder N’Golo Kanté;

“Kai has huge pain. Marcos has back pain.  have no idea when he [Kanté] will be back and we are not only missing N’Golo, we are missing Mateo Kovacic for four/five/six weeks. Jorgi is playing with hip pain for many matchdays and you can see it.

It’s not interesting what I think. He [Kanté] plays when he is back. The new year is a long way to go. If I say he plays against Zenit and does not play, that does not help. He is injured and I take care of the guys on the pitch. N’Golo hasn’t been on the pitch since Juventus.

We have some overloaded players, yes. This is not an excuse and I will say overload and if you look at our schedule, there is no escape and this is exactly where we struggle at the moment. It is absolutely normal to be tired through the Premier League in winter, it is a question of precision, details, risk management, where you take it, and where you absolutely don’t.”

Chelsea suffers late defeat against West Ham; fall to second

The race for top spot in the Premier League took another twist today after Chelsea succumbed to a late 3-2 defeat against West Ham at the London Stadium, as David Moyes’ Hammers continue to prove their top-four credentials are not a fluke.

Thiago Silva set the Blues off to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute only to be cancelled out by Manuel Lanzini 11-minutes later. The one-goal lead was restored by Cobham product Mason Mount four minutes after but a second-half goal from Jarrod Bowen and an 87th-minute winner from Arthur Masuaku gave West Ham a crucial three-point haul against their capital rivals, putting an end to their three-match winless run.

It was just the second loss for Chelsea this season, with the defeat putting an end to the eight-match unbeaten run (6-2-0) that saw them leading the pack at the top ahead of Liverpool and Man City. But the Reds found a late winner of their own thanks to Divock Origi, and have now leapfrogged Chelsea into first. Should Man City follow suit later against Watford, Pep Guardiola’s Citizens will force Chelsea to drop to third as they once again pull ahead of Liverpool.

With a growing injury crisis at the club coming during a difficult December period in what is shaping up to be a season-long battle for first among the current elite in English football, there is certainly cause for concern.
