Brighton compete to sign highly rated Spanish international Marc Cucurella

Cucurella Brighton bound?

Brighton and Hove Albion are looking to build on a frustrating season by strengthening their side ahead of the new campaign.

Graham Potter’s men finished 15th in 2020-21, and found themselves lacking a reliable goalscorer, something not helped by injury to Danny Welbeck.

However, the Seagulls have already begun improving on their side, with Enock Mwepu joining the club from RB Salzburg.

And now, it seems as though Marc Cucurella, Brighton’s agressive wing-back, is next on their shopping list.

According to The Athletic, the defender, who can also play in midfield, has a release clause of just 18 million euros (around 15 million pounds).

Cucurella represented Spain’s Under-21 side at the U21 European Championships this summer, featuring four times as his side was knocked out by Portugal in the semi-finals.

The Spaniard has also been called up to the 2020 Olympic side, meaning that he would miss the first few games of the domestic campaign were he to join.

Meanwhile, Brighton are thought to be resigned to letting centre back Ben White leave the club, whilst interest in Yves Bissouma remains.

As such, Cucurella may be just the first of several names through the door.

Interest from Italy

However, Brighton are not thought to be the only party at the table when it comes to Cucurella’s signing, with Jose Mourinho’s Roma also credited with an interest.

Roma’s current wing-back Leonardo Spinazzola, was injured during Italy’s Euro 2020 campaign, and is set to miss much of the 2020-21 season as a result.

Cucurella could provide a like-for-like alternative on the left flank, with Roma seeking to overhaul a squad that finished seventh last season.
